Version 1.0 - July 26, 2002 First (and complete!) version of the guide. ======================================================================= 2) BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BS-X AND BS ZELDA ======================================================================= Here's a short overview of the Super Nintendo's BS-X add-on and BS Zelda. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THE SATELLAVIEW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In 1995, the Satellaview, also called the BS-X, was released for the Super Nintendo in Japan for 14,000 yen/$150. This device allowed users to connect to the St. GIGA satellite system. There you can read up Nintendo games, events, or whatever and even download games. The actual add-on connected to the bottom of the console, and broadcast cassettes were used as "cartridges" in the SNES. The cassettes are nearly identical to the Super Game Boy in terms of appearance and could hold up to one megabit of data. The various games put out on the St. GIGA system were broadcasted from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The user could place whatever games s/he wished on the BS-X cassette and then play them. Once 7:00 rolled around, normal television programming resumed. This went on for about four(?) weeks. The games available included remakes of F-Zero, Zelda, Excite Bike, and others. Of course, being a Nintendo product, Mario games were aplenty. Funnily enough, Super Mario Bros. 2 (called BS Super Mario Bros. USA) appears to be a clone of Super Mario Advance found on the GameBoy Advance. Hmmm... ;) Nintendo and Square developed the majority of the games that were released, although they were a few stray titles such as Dragon Quest. >>>>>>>> BS ZELDA >>>>>>>> At first glance, BS Zelda is a remake of the first Legend of Zelda on the NES with enhanced sound and graphics. However, several changes such as revamped dungeon maps and location switches have been applied, making this title an almost entirely new experience. Even better, the 255 Rupee limit has been dropped! Perhaps the most notable change is the clock in the upper-right corner. At certain times, special bonuses are given to you for a fixed duration. These "bonuses" can be a Fairy, infinite Bombs, and much more. If things get tough, the aid you receive can turn the tide! Because you cannot connect to St. GIGA and download BS Zelda any longer, the only way to play it these days is through emulation. For an emulator, I would suggest either ZSNES or SNES9x. These can be found at www.zophar.net. For the ROM of the game, go to Google (or whatever search engine) to find the file. To "unlock" more of the game, translate Japanese text, and turn off the time limit, you need to download an .ips patch file. You can get it here: http://www.zophar.net/newtrans/download/snes/bszfin.zip Rename the ROM and patch to the same filename (for example, bszelda.smc and bszelda.ips), place the files in the same folder, run it in an emulator, and you're set! Don't ask me how to do this...it's really not that difficult! :P ======================================================================= 3) CONTROLS ======================================================================= The controls for BS Zelda. Pretty basic, but here it is anyway... START - Brings up Inventory screen. Select an item to equip and then press Start again. SELECT - Opens a different Inventory screen. I'm guessing this was made to show players all of what they could find. However, if you use the .ips patch I mentioned earlier, you're able to access more items than what's pictured here. X - Brings up normal Inventory screen. Y - Attack with sword. A - Attack with sword. B - Use currently equipped inventory item. ======================================================================= 4) WALKTHROUGH ======================================================================= This section guides you through the game. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> OVERWORLD MAP GRID >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fortunately, when the graphics were edited in BS Zelda, the overworld map in the upper-left corner was simplified and became *MUCH* easier to read. Like the dungeon maps, this one is divided into blocks to represent each screen. To make it easier and having me avoid boring you to death by saying "Head west, east, north, west" every two sentences, I try using coordinates such as [E,5] in this walkthrough. Use the following grid to figure out where exactly I mean. Dungeon entrances are also marked here. The "-" and "|" symbols indicate how the screens are connected to each other. The "Current Clock Data" segment keeps you updated as to what the events are and what time they occur. You can find this segment throughout the walkthrough. As an example, when you have either no Triforce pieces or just one, a fairy will always appear at :33. The hour the clock states is irrelevant. It can be 0:33, 1:33, or 5:33, but a fairy will be there. Several events are activated during only a duration of time. These events are marked in the list with "*START*" and "*END*" notes. As an example, infinite bombs occur at :45. When the clock turns to :53, Link's bomb supply is switched back to its normal status. 0-1 Triforce Pieces Collected ----------------------------- Clock Starts At: 0:00 x:10 - *START* Shoot sword beam regardless of life left x:15 - *END* Shoot sword beam regardless of life left x:18 - All enemies on screen die x:20 - *START* Heart Container appears on shore of Level 6 x:28 - *END* Heart Container (item disappears) x:33 - Single Fairy x:35 - *START* All enemies give Fairies and Blue Rupees x:38 - All enemies on screen die x:40 - *END* All enemies give Fairies and Blue Rupees x:43 - All enemies on screen freeze x:45 - *START* Infinite Bombs x:53 - *END* Infinite Bombs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THE QUEST BEGINS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Link starts in [F,8] like he did in the original. He enters the cave to find the Old Man. Apparently, this guy can only keep himself company by making shadow puppets on the cave wall all day... All this man does is fork over the Wooden Sword to Link. After that, you can forget about him! Exit the cave. Proceed to [E,5] for the first dungeon! >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 1 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point......[D,8] Boss Lair........[C,1] Compass..........[C,8] Map..............[D,5] Bow..............[B,5] A B C D ___ ___ ___ ___ 1 |___|-|___|-|Bos|-|___| 1 _|_ 2 |___| 2 _|_ 3 |___| 3 _|_ ___ ___ 4 |___|-|___|-|___| 4 ___ _|_ ___ 5 |Bow|-|___|-|Map| 5 _|_ 6 |___| 6 _|_ 7 |___| 7 ___ ___ ___ _|_ 8 |___|-|___|-|Com|-|Str| 8 A B C D Walkthrough ----------- Enter the left room to find the Compass. Kill the five Keese there to open the locked door. Proceed through the doorway. One of the Stalfos contains a Key...it may be 'difficult' to find out which one has it... :P Take 'em all out, steal the Key, and go left to find the Old Man with one of his famous, oh-so-helpful lines. And, no, it's not "DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE." "Arrows cost money to use" is the tip this time. Retreat to the entrance at [D,8] and walk up north. Defeat the five Ropes to activate the Key. I find this room to be wonderful for collecting Hearts and Rupees. Remember that the enemies always regenerate when you reenter a room, so make use of that advantage! I'd recommend nabbing at least a couple hundred Rupees. Collect the Key, and head through the northern locked door. Eliminate the Stalfos and continue. The next room contains some Keese and the Map. The bats need to be removed in order to open the door. This room leaves you with a fork in the dungeon, so-to-speak. Defeat all of the Gels to open the closed door. Now, look out for the Blade Traps in the proceeding room! Dodge them, push the western most block up or down, and walk down the stairs. Obtain the Bow found in this basement. Return to [C,5], and walk up this time. Now meet the three Goriyas (no relation to the Three Amigos...)! It's easiest to kill them using the sword beam at full life. If you don't feel like it, you can just evade them and grab the Key. In the following screen, destroy the three Gels, and shove the block in any direction to reopen the doors. The many Keese here reward you with nothing if you beat them all, so skip them and pass through the locked door. Here you encounter another Staflos-has-the-Key-in-his-body scenario...but with water! *gasp* The set of Goriyas in the next room give up a Bomb if you best all three. Ahh, yes, the Wallmasters! Get caught and back to the labrinyth entrance you go! Continue to the right to find... Boss: Aquamentus ---------------- As one might expect, this first boss is a pushover... It shoots three fireballs in your general direction. There's usually a delay between attacks, varying from 2-5 seconds. Move in for the kill during that time! To make Aquamentus *really* easy, get a full life bar, and shoot away at the dragon. Its movement is quite slow, making it even easier to nail with your sword! With the usual Zelda tradition, the boss leaves behind a Heart Container that adds to your life meter. The next room contains a piece of the Triforce. You're sent back to the dungeon entrance outside as soon as you pick it up. >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> Once you have worked through the first dungeon and your clock is between :20 and :28, visit [H,7] to obtain a Heart Container. Head to [H,6], and walk into the cave by the shore. The Old Man inside will hand over a letter and tell you to give it to the Old Woman. You'll need this later if you plan to purchase the Water of Life. If you actually want to go buy the medicine, go to [F,4] and bomb the rock wall to uncover a cave. Show the Old Woman the Letter, and she will let you purchase the Water of Life from her. Now is also a good time to earn Rupees. Screen [D,7] in the first dungeon is a perfect spot. Ropes usually drop money. Because of the method enemies regenerate in this game, simply reenter the room, defeat the snakes, collect the money, and repeat! The hidden cave at [F,7] on the overworld is another spot. You are using an emulator to play this game, so if you don't receive the desired amount of Rupees, reload a saved state and do it again! With enough money in hand, pay a visit to the shop at [E,7]. Buy the Large Shield and the Wooden Arrow. Now you can use the Bow! It's an altern- ative when you can't use your sword's beam. When you are ready and prepared for the second dungeon, walk to [G,4]. Place a bomb on the southern side of the big rock there. This explosion will reveal the entrance to the next labrinyth... >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 2 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point........[B,7] Boss Lair..........[E,7] Compass............[B,5] Map................[A,3] Wooden Boomerang...[B,6] A B C D E ___ 1 |___| 1 ___ _|_ ___ 2 |___|-|___|-|___| 2 ___ ___ _|_ 3 |Map|-|___|-|___| 3 _|_ 4 |___| 4 _|_ 5 |Com| 5 _|_ ___ 6 |Woo| |___| 6 _|_ _|_ 7 |Str| |Bos| 7 A B C D E Walkthrough ----------- Walk up one screen from the starting point to find a room with three Goriyas. Defeat them all, and the Wooden Boomerang appears. Collect it, and continue! The next screen is filled with Keese. You can slap them around a bit if you desire to, but it won't net you anything. Obviously, nab the Compass before you move on. [B,4] is yet another "Find-the-enemy-with- the-Key" scenario. Destroy the Stalfos with the Key. Open the door. The Ropes located here make this a good way to earn fast Rupees if you need them, anyway. Slay all of the snakes to open the sealed door to your left. Enter it. Pick up the Map guarded by the two Zols, return back to the Rope room, and head right this time. The following screen appears to be a dead end at first glance. Because the game provides you with Bombs here, there's a *slight* chance it may have to deal with blowing up your own way through a wall. :P Interestingly enough, you can reenter this room to gain as many explosives as you need. Place a Bomb at the northern wall between the two blocks. Pass through the newly uncovered doorway! Ignore the usual three Goriya pack here. Enter the left doorway to find a Wallmaster room. You can bomb the upper wall to uncover a hidden screen. The Old Man there provides the tip, "Dodongo dislikes smoke." REJOICE! Take the Key where the Wallmasters are, and unlock the nearby door. Evade the Bladetraps, and then push the leftmost block so you can travel down the stairs leading to [E,7]. After you leave the basement, Link ends up with today's boss... Boss - Dodongo -------------- All you need for this battle is two Bombs. Whenever Dodongo is moving head on to Link, drop a Bomb in his path so he eats it. Mmmm...explosives... Do that twice, and the dino is defeated! Continue on for the second Triforce piece... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CURRENT CLOCK DATA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2-3 Triforce Pieces Collected ----------------------------- Clock Starts At: 1:00 x:12 - Single Fairy x:13 - *END* Unknown x:19 - All enemies on screen die x:25 - All enemies on screen freeze x:28 - *END* Unknown x:30 - *START* Blue Candle changes to Red Candle x:33 - All enemies on screen die x:35 - Single Fairy x:38 - *END* Blue Candle changes to Red Candle x:47 - All enemies on screen freeze >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> In order to reach the third dungeon, you must purchase a Blue Candle. Return to the shop at [E,7]. The merchant is now selling the item you need for 60 Rupees. Buy it, and leave. At screen [D,7] on the overworld, three trees block Link's path. Use the Blue Candle to clear the way. If you have at least 250 Rupees, visit the shop at [B,5]. Purchase the Blue Ring. It may be costly now, but its defensive boost more than makes up for it! It wouldn't hurt to get the Meat there, too. You won't need it until the fifth dungeon, however, you might as well get it while you're here. Burn the left of two trees at [B,7] to find a cave with an Old Man. He offers two items (Red Water of Life and a Heart Container) but only one can be taken. Obviously, choose the container, unless you want to go the stupid route and take the medicine. ;) Enter [C,8] for the third dungeon. >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 3 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point.........[A,8] Boss Lair...........[C,1] Compass.............[A,5] Map.................[D,7] Raft................[A,2] Magical Boomerang...[D,8] A B C D ___ ___ ___ ___ 1 |___|-|___|-|Bos|-|___| 1 ___ 2 |Raf| 2 _|_ 3 |___| 3 _|_ ___ ___ 4 |___| |___|-|___| 4 _|_ _|_ 5 |Com| |___| 5 _|_ _|_ 6 |___| |___| 6 _|_ ___ ___ _|_ 7 |___|-|___|-|___|-|Map| 7 _|_ _|_ _|_ _|_ 8 |Str| |___|-|___| |Mag| 8 A B C D Walkthrough ----------- Head up one screen from the start to find three Zols protecting a Key. Collect the Key, move north, and you will see two Vires. When you hit one, it transforms into two red Keese. Defeat both of them to gain another Key. The next room contains the Compass, along with several bats. Continue up. More Zols are found here. If you slay all of the slimes, a bunch of Bombs appear in the upper-right corner. Place an explosive at the center of the northern wall to uncover a hidden path. You can just ignore the enemies in this next screen. Simply pass through the locked door at the top. Walk down the staircase at [A,2] (watch out for the Darknuts!) to reach the basement with the Raft item. Once you collect it, return to [A,7], and go right this time instead of up. Here we go again...three Goriyas! You can kill them if you want. If you desire some extra funds, run south and then east. This leads to a room containing nine Blue Rupees in an arrow formation. Bomb the wall the arrow points to. Go up! Because you went this route, you can grab the Key found here! Evade the Keese, and backtrack to the room with the Goriyas. Head right. Unlock the door. A few Zols are here with this dungeon's map. Take them out, but be sure to get the Map before walking through the southern doorway. The fight can be tough. However, if you actually bought the Wooden Arrow and Large Shield like I suggested earlier, you should be fine. Use your Bow to defeat the two blue Goriyas. Keep on an eye on the statues, as they continuously launch fireballs at Link. When you defeat the duo, the Magical Boomerang appears! Enter the room above the one with the four Zols and the Map. Oh, look! More blue Goriyas! Like before, use your Bow to defeat the three of them. Then push the left block in any direction to open the sealed door. The Old Man says "I hear a voice coming from the next room.." Obviously, go ahead and blast the left wall to uncover a new door. Stab the Vires here, and travel down the stairs. When you leave the basement, you end up at [A,1]. Kill the four Keese to open the door. If, for some reason, you wish to go back through the stairs, shove the left block. In the screen right before the boss, two Darknuts block your path to the locked door. Fortunately for you, the water can help you attack the armored foes from a safe distance. Your Bow is worthless, but your Wooden Sword should do the trick. Continue right to the boss! Boss - Manhandla ---------------- To defeat this bizarre thing, you must destroy its four heads. The easiest way to win is to place a Bomb, so it explodes right in the center of the beast. This instantly kills it! Note that the boss moves faster and faster as it losses more heads! Now we have three pieces of the Triforce! >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> If you want a bit of a challenge, proceed to [B,6] for the Lost Woods. The Old Man at [B,8] provides a tip to bypass the endless maze here. Upon entering, move north, west, south, and finally west again. This time Link walks into a new area! Go up one screen to find blue tornados swirling all over the place. If Link walks into one, he is sent back to the previous screen. I would recommend saving and reloading saved states to get past this mess. Don't worry; after completing the next dungeon, the tornados will be gone, making the situation a helluva lot easier. If you are lucky and/or skilled enough to evade the storms, you can travel to the graveyard. It has been shrunken greatly compared to the first Legend of Zelda, covering only a single screen. Like in the original, touching the wrong tombstone releases a ghost called Ghini. Here's a quick map of which one you should push: _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _ _ _ |_| |X| |_| |_| _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_| Shove the "X" tombstone in any direction to reveal stairs. Go down to find an Old Man with the White Sword. You are allowed to take it, if you have enough Heart Containers. You have enough by now, so don't don't worry about it. Take the new weapon. At this point, there's nothing else to discover. Use Raft at the dock at [C,5] to reach the entrance for the fourth dungeon. >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 4 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point......[B,8] Boss Lair........[C,8] Compass..........[A,8] Map..............[C,5] Ocarina..........[B,1] A B C D ___ ___ ___ ___ 1 |___|-|Oca|-|___|-|___| 1 ___ _|_ 2 |___|-|___| 2 _|_ _|_ 3 |___| |___| 3 _|_ _|_ 4 |___| |___| 4 _|_ ___ 5 |___|-|Map| 5 _|_ _|_ 6 |___|-|___| 6 _|_ ___ 7 |___| |___| 7 ___ _|_ _|_ ___ 8 |Com|-|Str| |Bos|-|___| 8 A B C D Walkthrough ----------- Enter the left room from the start. Inside, you will several Vires. Activate your candle to light up the room, grab the Compass, and then head north from the starting point. Here's another dark room! Use the candle and fight the Zols. If you actually ventured out through those tornados for the White Sword, you can take them out in one hit without having to put up with the Gels they leave behind. I believe using your Wooden Arrow will accomplish the same. When all of the slimes are dead, a Key appears. Go up! Keese inhabit this place. Defeating all of them nets you some Bombs. Destroy the center of the right wall, creating a doorway that leads to a room with another Key. Backtrack, and go to [B,5]. Bah! Darknuts! Forunately, you can skip these armored horrors completely, unless you actually need more Bombs. :P To gain the dungeon's Map, head right. Dodge the Blade Traps, get it, and return to the previous screen. Now, continue north. The odd worm critter found here is a Moldorm. All it does is move around the room... It's not necessary to kill him, but if you want, just stab it, throw fire, bomb it, or whatever! As it takes damage, it loses its end segments and eventually disappears entirely. When the first is dead, another appears in its place. Killing the second Moldorm opens the southern sealed door and rewards you with a Blue Rupee. Open the locked door up top. Run past this next room, as there's nothing of interest here. If Link touches one of those Bubbles, he will not be able to use his sword for a few seconds. You can't kill 'em, so don't bother with them! The next screen has Blade Traps and Keese. Put a Key in the locked door, and continue east to [C,2]. Since you don't have any Keys at the moment, evade the Vires and walk up a screen. Here, AVOID THE LIKE LIKES! If you have a Large Shield on now (and you should!), a Like Like can eat it when Link is trapped inside of the foe. Heading to the room to your right leads you to the Old Man, who with his divine wisdom, says "There are weak living things." Yeah, I feel enlightened, too. Go left... In this room with the Darknut duo, bomb the left wall. There the Old Man will provide Link a bomb capacity upgrade for the cost of 50 Rupees. Needless to say, it would be a good idea to pay the man. Backtrack to the Darknuts, slay them, and pick up the Key they leave behind. Go down to the basement with the Ocarina by pushing the leftmost block, as usual. Walk back to the locked door at [C,2] and open it. The rest of the dungeon is straight-forward and takes you right to the boss. Boss - Digdogger ---------------- Isn't this a cute little...uh, thing? Play your Ocarina once to shrink the monster into three smaller pieces. They move around quickly but do not use any special attacks against you. I would recommend using your sword's beam or Wooden Arrows to safely eliminate the enemies. You have half of the Triforce now! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CURRENT CLOCK DATA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 4-5 Triforce Pieces Collected ----------------------------- Clock Starts At: 2:00 x:00 - *END* Rainstorm x:10 - *START* Blue Water of Life for ten Rupees at Dungeon 5 x:14 - All enemies on screen die x:20 - *START* Infinite Bombs x:25 - All enemies on screen die x:27 - All enemies on screen freeze x:28 - *END* Infinite Bombs x:30 - *START* Rocks stop falling x:32 - *START* 16 Heart Containers x:34 - *END* Blue Water of Life for ten Rupees at Dungeon 5 x:35 - *START* Ocarina square permaneantly appears at Dungeon 6 entrance x:37 - Single Fairy x:39 - Single Fairy x:42 - *END* 16 Heart Containers x:45 - *START* Boomerang changes to Super Boomerang x:48 - All enemies on screen freeze x:50 - *END* Rocks stop falling x:50 - *START* Rainstorm x:55 - *END* Boomerang changes to Super Boomerang >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> If you didn't already pick up the White Sword from the graveyard earlier, do it now. The Lost Woods is no longer a maze, and the tornadoes in the canyon are gone. Needless to say, getting the weapon is cake now. :P Check the Intermission before Dungeon 4 if you misses on how to get it. Journey to [H,4]. Because you completed that previous dungeon, the whirlpool that normally blocks your path on the docks is gone. So, move across! Unforunately, there's nothing new for you to acquire right now. Go to [H,2], where there's a grave surrounded by four Armos Knights. Walk up the cliff directly behind that tombstone to reach the hidden entrance to Dungeon 5. Have Meat in your inventory before you enter! There's a shop that sells it nearby at [G,1]. >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 5 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point......[B,8] Boss Lair........[D,1] Compass..........[B,3] Map..............[E,8] Ladder...........[E,6] A B C D E ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ 1 |___|-|___|-|___|-|Boss|-|___| 1 ___ ___ 2 |___| |___| 2 _|_ _|_ 3 |___|-|Com| 3 _|_ _|_ ___ ___ 4 |___| |___| |___|-|___| 4 _|_ _|_ _|_ 5 |___| |___| |___| 5 _|_ _|_ _|_ 6 |___| |___| |Lad| 6 _|_ _|_ ___ ___ ___ 7 |___| |___|-|___|-|___|-|___| 7 _|_ _|_ ___ _|_ _|_ 8 |___| |Str|-|___|-|___| |Map| 8 A B C D E Walkthrough ----------- From the map above, you can tell that this dungeon is almost identical to the third dungeon. Bomb to the wall at the right to find the Old Man. He says... "There's a secret with the soldier's statue." You'll find out exactly what that means soon. Anyway, go right to find a Fairy. Remember this spot, as you can restore your life for free here. Bomb the north wall. Slay the Gibdos mummies here. You can pick up the Bombs they drop, and then push the left block to open the sealed door. Avoid the Bubble in this next room! If you happen to touch it, you must touch a blue Bubble in order to use your sword again. Needless to say, that's a pain in the booty... :P Grab the Key, head south, and get the Map. This is a dead end, so let Link be captured by one of the Wallmasters. Now that you're back at the starting point, walk up to spot two Darknuts. Use the Key you found earlier to open the door and continue. The next screen introduces you to the Wizzrobes. They're not difficult; just stay out of their line of fire. At [B,5], three Zols guard a Key. Without the Ladder, you can't even get the blasted thing, so just continue on. A shopkeeper blocks your path. Give him the Meat you bought earlier to make him magically disappear! Maybe the food was poisoned... ;) The next room contains the Compass. Shove the central block up to get it. Then detonate a Bomb at the left wall to reveal a new area. Enter it, and return to the Compass room. Push the block again, however, walk north this time! They are not just Darknuts...they're BLUE! And, yes, you must kill both of them to continue. Your sword beam is probably the best weapon to use. Once the soldiers are gone, do the usual left-block-push to reveal a staircase and remove the sealed door. Going through the basement takes you to [E,4]. Break through the left wall to find the Old Man who will give Link ANOTHER Bomb upgrade for 50 Rupees. Take it, and travel to [E,5]. To defeat the three Dodongos, you *must* have at least 6 Bombs. If not, turn around and go earn some more. Destroy them to continue on to the base- ment with the Ladder. Backtrack the whole way to [B,5] again, and take the Key. Use it to open the door at [A,3]. Pass through that door then. The Wizzrobe duo here fork over Bombs when they are defeated. More Bombs can be found at [A,7] by slaying all of the Keese there. [A,8] contains a staircase that leads to the path to the boss. Of course, just to annoy you, you have to kill the Darknuts. Do that, push the block, and continue. When you walk out of the basement, there are three Gibdos and a Bubble. Defeat the mummies without touching the Bubble. Head right to fight more Darknuts. Continuing on leads to more Gidbos. After eliminating them, shove the center block on the end to open the door. Boss - Patra ------------ Cake. Stand at the side of the ring of flies, and keep stabbin'. Once its shield is down, attack Patra in the center. The giant fly hovers up and down in the middle of the screen and doesn't even bother attacking you with anything. >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> Now, with that wooden Ladder, there's a few containers you can obtain. Journey to [D,8]. Cross the tiny gap, and enter the cave. The Old Man here offers a Red Water of Life or a Heart Container. Take the heart and leave. [H,6] has another Heart Container that you can nab with the Ladder. Visit [F,4]. Cross the small river with the Ladder. Go left, and continue to [C,3]. Place a Bomb towards the left end of the wall to find a hidden cave. Inside, take the Old Man's Heart Container. If you found all of the containers I listed up to this point in the walkthrough, the last ones are found only from the dungeon bosses. So, you don't have to bother looking for any more! Hoo-ah! When you are ready for the next dungeon, walk to [H,7]. Wait for the clock to reach :35. An ocarina square appears in the sand. Stand on the tile, play your Ocarina, and watch the dungeon entrance rise. Skip the foes in the next screen to go to [A,5]. Slay the Ropes and Keese, push the left block, and enter the right doorway. Mmm...more Blue Rupees! Continue on to find a Key. Head to [A,4] to fight a Moldorm. Defeating the worm nets you six Blue Rupees. The next room has even *more* Rupees... [A,2] is where the reincarnation of the Dungeon 4's Digdogger resides. Play your Ocarina to split up the creature, and finish it off using your Sword or Bow. Walk right to find two Pols Voices, two Like Likes, and the Map. Bomb north to find the Old Man. His tip of the day is, "Aim at the eye of Ghoma." Proceed to [B,3] when you're ready. Looks like a dead-end, right? Well, not quite. Link is able to walk right through the southern wall. No Bomb required. Head down the stairs there to reach the basement containing the ultra spiffy Magic Wand. Have fun with it! Defeat Octoroks, loot villages, and organize an angry mob! Collect your second Key by bombing the right wall at [A,3]. Remember the locked door at [A,6]? Unlock it and enter. In order to defeat the four Pols Voices, play your Ocarina. Yep, a few music notes send 'em to the grave. ^_^ Of course, this makes yet another great spot to gain money. Reenter, play your Ocarina, collect, and repeat. Bomb the right wall to reach another section of Dungeon 6. The room north of your current position has the almighty Fairy. If you want to go to the boss, unlock the door and go south. Bypass the Blade Traps, walk south again, and grab the Key from the Like Likes. Now, enter the staircase at [C,7]. Take out the many Gibdos here if you like. Unlock the door to Ghoma... Boss - Ghoma ------------ Even if you have a Large Shield, you cannot block Ghoma's fireballs. Keep moving! Or, you could hide in the doorway. Whatever you do, peg a Wooden Arrow into Ghoma's eye whenever it opens. One shot kills the spider. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CURRENT CLOCK DATA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 6-8 Triforce Pieces Collected ----------------------------- Clock Starts At: 3:00 x:00 - *END* Shooting sword, infinite Bombs, and Super Boomerang x:00 - *END* Whistle for hidden cave on overworld x:08 - *END* Rainstorm x:08 - *START* Armos awaken x:10 - *START* Shops sell items at half price x:19 - All enemies on screen die x:20 - *END* Shops sell items at half price x:21 - All enemies on screen die x:25 - *START* Magical Sword and Red Ring appear x:30 - *END* Unknown x:35 - *END* Magical Sword and Red Ring appear x:35 - *START* Hear whistle on overworld when you enter screen with hidden cave x:40 - *START* Shooting sword, infinite Bombs, and Super Boomerang x:45 - *START* Rainstorm x:45 - *END* Armos awaken >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> What you will notice immediately upon leaving the dungeon is the rainstorm. At first glance, it may not seem like much, but this storm changes all of the Octoroks found on the overworld into Darknuts. Ew. There's a few extremely powerful items to collect at this point in BS Zelda, namely the Power Bracelet, Red Ring, and the Magical Sword. I'll tell you how to obtain them in the order you can do so... Power Bracelet. Travel to [B,2] when the clock is at :08. The storm moves away, and the Armos Knights awaken. At the screen I mentioned, there are eight Knights. Touch the one I have marked here: _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |X| |_| _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_| As the Armos Knight walks/runs from its root position, you can nab the bracelet. It allows Link to push certain boulders found on the overworld. Most of those boulders lead you to teleporters that help make traveling quicker. I feel the Power Bracelet looses its usefulness in this game because you can only get it after collecting six Triforce pieces, and the overworld in BS Zelda is almost half the size when compared to the original. Oh well. Red Ring and Magical Sword. For being so powerful, you'd think these two items would be more difficult to get. :P First off, the clock must be between :25 and :35. It's a small timeframe, but you can do it. The ring is found at [C,7]. Take out the left Armos there to uncover a cave. The Old Man will grant you the Red Ring. The sword is located where the White Sword was in the original Legend of Zelda. Enter the cave at [E,2] above the waterfall. Take the weapon from the Old Man. The seventh dungeon is at [F,2]. You'll need the Power Bracelet to reach it. >>>>>>>>> DUNGEON 7 >>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point......[D,6] Boss Lair........[E,1] Compass..........[F,5] Map..............[D,1] Red Candle.......[F,3] A B C D E F G ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ 1 |___| |___| |Map| |Bos|-|___| 1 ___ _|_ _|_ _|_ _|_ ___ ___ 2 |___| |___|-|___|-|___| |___| |___|-|___| 2 _|_ _|_ ___ _|_ ___ _|_ _|_ 3 |___|-|___| |___| |___| |___|-|Red|-|___| 3 ___ ___ _|_ _|_ _|_ ___ _|_ 4 |___|-|___|-|___| |___| |___|-|___|-|___| 4 _|_ ___ ___ _|_ ___ ___ _|_ 5 |___|-|___|-|___|-|___|-|___|-|Com| |___| 5 _|_ _|_ ___ 6 |___| |Str|-|___| 6 A B C D E F G Walkthrough ----------- Welcome to the largest dungeon in BS Zelda! Hooray, I guess. :P Go right for a Key and three blue Darknuts. If you have the Magical Sword, a blue version is dead in two hits. Don't be troubled by them anymore! Move one screen north of the start, and then walk right. The Old Man's tip is, "If you're to fight Ganon, find the Silver Arrow." But I'm guessing you probably knew that already... Go right again to find the Compass, along with a couple Wizzrobes. Travel to [C,5]. Evade the blue Bubble and Blade Traps. Remember, if that Bubble touches you, you will need to touch a red one in order to use your sword again. Unlock the door and enter. Enter the staircase here. Those stairs take you to [G,5]. Go up a screen to fight two Patras. They don't fight back, so they shouldn't be a problem. At the next screen, push the center block up. Enter the left room, and take the Key guarded by the Keese. If you bomb the left wall, you can reach a hidden treasure trove of Blue Rupees and a Fairy. Return to the previous room with that block, push it again, and unlock the northern door. More Darknuts! Defeating the group activates a Bomb bunch you can take. Proceed west. Bomb the southern wall. This enables you to reach the stairs that you saw earlier. Down in the basement you will find the Red Candle! Return to [C,5] again, but head left now. Cross the lava stream (does anyone see something wrong crossing that with a WOODEN ladder..?), and proceed. The Gibdos surround a Key there. Take it! Going north takes you to two Darknuts being aiding with two fireball- tossing statues. Destroy the knights to get more Bombs. Drop an explosive on the east wall. Oh, look! Even more Rupees... As if you don't have enough already. :P Go east again to find another cache of money and a Key. The room north of your position has more Blue Rupees. When you're done looting this dungeon, backtrack to one screen north of the start (that's [D,5]). Walk north at [D,5], across the lava using your magically fire-resistant Ladder. Ignore the Keese in the next room, as they don't leave anything behind. Unlock the door. [D,3] has a red Bubble in case you got nailed by a blue Bubble. Continue... At the mini lava lake, going north leads you to the Map. A blue Bubble and Darknut will be there waiting for you. Bomb the left wall at [D,2]. Defeat the Gidbos and red Darknut, and steal the Key. Head left. Here, two Wizzrobes hoard yet another Key. Walk north if you need a life recharge from the Fairy. At [B,3], kill the Gibdos and push the left block. While opening the sealed door, it also reveals a staircase. The staircase is a one-way path to [A,4]. So, avoid it entirely and continue left. [A,2] has another Manhandla to fight. Like before, one well-placed Bomb blows the monster to bits. Push the left block to reveal the TRUE staircase to the boss. Defeat the Keese at your exit in [E,2] to enter the boss's lair... Boss - Aquamentus ----------------- Yes, this dragon has returned, with some new tricks! Stay at the left edge, and fire away with your sword. You could use your Magic Wand, however, once Aquamentus changes from green to blue, he becomes invulnerable to it. When the dragon turns red, his salvos of fire are faster and spread out more. Don't fret; he's still cake! >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> Only one more piece is needed to complete the Triforce! The next dungeon is right down the street from the seventh one! Bomb the right wall to uncover a hidden room with eight Blue Rupees and the Spellbook! Go back and head to [B,6] for the Compass. The actual floor you can walk on here is hidden, so you have to wonder around a bit to get anywhere. Bomb the left wall for a Fairy, if you need it. Return to the Compass room, and walk right. Pass through the Wizzrobes to reach a Dodongo. You receive Bombs when you kill the dinosaur, so you don't have anything to lose here. Unlocking the door leads to the Old Man's tip, "Use the sword to stop Ganon, then shoot an arrow." Go up a screen from the Dodongo's room. You can't get the Map yet, but you will in a moment. Bomb the left wall. Pass the Like Likes, go up again, and continue east. Slay the Wizzrobes. Now you can take the Map! Travel to [B,4]. There, you must defeat another Patra. Follow the same strategy as you have before. Push the block, and stairs appear! You will exit at [D,3]. The rest of the trip is a one-way path to the boss. Along the way, you have to battle against a few previous major enemies. [C,2] - Three Dodongos [C,3] - Aquamentus [B,3] - Ghoma (Use your sword and arrows against it) Boss - Twin Ghomas ------------------ Well, where's Ganon at...? There's really nothing new against this enemy. Two Silver Arrows in each spider will kill it. >>>>>>>>>>>> INTERMISSION >>>>>>>>>>>> Actually, you have one more dungeon to go through to reach Ganon. It's located where you found the Wooden Sword at the start of the game. Enter the cave at [F,8] when the clock is at least at :45. You'll probably have a while to wait for that, so now would be a good time to search the overworld and dungeons for any items you missed out on. >>>>>>>>>>>>> FINAL DUNGEON >>>>>>>>>>>>> Labrinyth Map ------------- Start Point......[A,4] Boss Lair........[A,2] A ___ 1 |___| 1 _|_ 2 |Bos| 2 _|_ 3 |___| 3 _|_ 4 |Str| 4 A Walkthrough ----------- The Old Man is found knocked out on the floor. Ganon appears and carries him off through the opening. Place the complete Triforce into the slot above the start to reach Ganon's lair. Boss - Ganon ------------ Unless you have the Red Ring and the Magical Sword, this will be a troublesome fight. Ganon vanishes totally and starts launching fireballs around the room. You have to stab where the source of a shot is coming from to harm Ganon. There doesn't seem to be any definite pattern of movement of the boss, so attacking like crazy is the only solution. Four hits from the Magical Sword causes Ganon to turn blue. You have about five seconds to nail him with the Silver Arrow before he recovers. With Ganon defeated, you can rescue Princess Zelda in the next room. Stab the flames, and then talk to her. Enjoy the ending...(or lack of...!) ======================================================================= 5) ENEMIES ======================================================================= This section lists the enemies and general information about them. If you need help on bosses, check the Walkthrough section. Armos Knight ------------ Description: An armored knight carrying a tower shield and a spear. This enemy typically inanimated and simply stands like a statue. During certain time durations, an Armos Knight can be act- vated by touching it. How to Defeat: Whenever you nudge a knight, do it from its sides or back. An Armos Knight will either move very slowly or fast. You can enter melee combat with the sluggish ones, but I'd recommend using arrows or some other ranged weapon. Blade Trap ---------- Description: This is a blue square equipped with spikes on all sides. They usually appear in pairs. Whenever you walk between two, the Blade Traps quickly slide together and slowly retract to their original position. How to Defeat: There's no way to defeat the Blade Traps. Instead, to get passed them, take a step into their paths and quickly step back. As the traps retract, move through them. Bubble ------ Description: A skull surrounded in a colored aura. They come in three flavors: flashing, blue, and red. How to Defeat: Touching a Bubble results in the loss of using your sword. The effects of a flashing Bubble last a few seconds. The effects from a blue or red version lasts permaneantly, until you touch an opposite color Bubble. Darknut ------- Description: A heavily armored knight with a shield and sword. Darknuts come in red and blue versions. Blue ones move quicker and take more hits in order to be killed. How to Defeat: Darknuts are invulnerable to attacks from their front. So, you must harm them from their sides or backs. Your sword's beam is the safest method. Otherwise, you'll have to get in close quarters, which can be troublesome. Gel --- Description: A tiny blob that moves from one tile to another. How to Defeat: Piece o' cake. Any weapon takes one out in a single hit. Ghini ----- Description: A fearsome ghost that resides in graveyard areas. Touching a tombstone summons a Ghini. Multiple ghosts can be summoned for quick items. How to Defeat: The Ghini isn't exactly much of a fighter. It simply floats around, using no attacks. Gibdo ----- Description: A slow-moving mummy found in the underworld dungeons. How to Defeat: A Gidbo is a suped-up Stalfos, really. The only difference is that the mummy has more life. Your sword works fine. Goriya ------ Description: An odd tunic-wearing creature that throws boomerangs. Goriyas come in red and blue variants. As usual, blue ones are stronger. How to Defeat: Ranged combat is the way to go against these monsters. Use your own boomerang against them. That way, they won't be able to fight back while you stab them with your sword. Keese ----- Description: An ordinary bat. It flies around for a short while and stops to rest. How to Defeat: The easiest way to defeat these pesky critters is to attack when they stop, or use a Boomerang. Leever ------ Description: A desert foe surrounded with spikes. Although it's usually found only in sandy areas, Leevers appear elsewhere. Again, there's red and blue Leevers, with blue being the stronger. How to Defeat: Leevers are quite simple to defeat. They rise from the ground, move a short distance, and return underground. Like Like --------- Description: A stack of pancakes that slowly slither around. Yeah, pancakes. How to Defeat: NEVER engage these things in close combat! If you are trapped while wearing a Large Shield, it's eaten and gone for good. Use whatever weapons you have to fight from a distance. Lynel ----- Description: A centaur that wields a sword. How to Defeat: Unless you have a Blue Ring or Red Ring equipped, Lynels tear through your life meter. Buy a Large Shield to block their sword beams. The Magic Wand and arrows work great if you can't utilize your own sword's beam. Moldorm ------- Description: A slow-moving worm. How to Defeat: It doesn't fight back, so Moldorm is easy to slay. As it takes damage, the worm shrinks, until it disappears entirely. Octorok ------- Description: An octopus capable of moving on land. It spits out rocks straight ahead as it roams around. How to Defeat: Nothing difficult... Remember, they can only fire directly ahead, so attack from the sides or behind. Peahat ------ Description: A bizarre enemy that uses propellers to fly around. How to Defeat: The only method to harm Peahats is to attack when they stop flying. Nothing damages them as they're moving. Rope ---- Description: A snake that charges at Link when he is in their line of sight. How to Defeat: Ropes are extremely weak and usually drop money or other goodies. Jab your sword out as they come flying at you. Stalfos ------- Description: A skeleton warrior with a sword. How to Defeat: The Stalfos is somewhat slow and has no ranged attack. Occassionally, a Stalfos has a Key inside of itself. Kill it to make it drop the item. Tektite ------- Description: A jumping spider that comes in red and blue forms. How to Defeat: Their jumpiness makes them a pain to beat. Use a Boomerang to stun and then close in for the kill. Wallmaster ---------- Description: Imagine Thing took steroids... The Wallmaster is a giant hand that enters from the walls. When Link ends up in its grasp, he sent back to the dungeon's entrance. How to Defeat: Attack from a distance. 'Nuff said. Wizzrobe -------- Description: A red/orange or blue wizard that uses waves of magic to harm you. The orange one teleports around the room, attacks, and moves again. The blue Wizzrobe walks around and can cross gaps with no trouble. How to Defeat: As long as you have a Large Shield, you're safe. Stab them with your sword inbetween attacks. Vire ---- Description: A large jumping bat that almost resembles a gargoyle. When a Vire is hit with a weak weapon, it splits into two red Keese. How to Defeat: Use stronger weapons to defeat the Vire without having to deal with the Keese. Zol --- Description: A big blob of Jell-O. The Zol is similar to the Keese/Vire relationship. A weak weapon causes it to split into two Gels. How to Defeat: Again, strong weapons can eliminate the Gels as well. Zora ---- Description: A reptile-like creature that inhabits the water. How to Defeat: Equip a Large Shield to block Zora's fireballs. In almost all cases, ranged fighting is a must to kill it. Your sword beam is probably the easiest method. ======================================================================= 6) HEART CONTAINER LOCATIONS ======================================================================= This section lists the locations of the Heart Containers. They are listed in the order you can obtain them in the game. 1. Defeat Aquamentus in Dungeon 1. 2. On the shore at [H,7]. If you have at least 6 pieces, the Boomerang changes between :40 and :00. Description: Who needs a sword when you've got this? ^_^ The Super Boomerang travels faster and harms enemies, too! Bow --- Location: Dungeon 1 Description: Unless you have arrows, the Bow is worthless! So, obtain arrows as soon as possible, and you'll have a formidable weapon! Wooden Arrow ------------ Location: Buy it in a shop Description: Used in conjunction with the Bow. A very nice weapon to use when you can't fire beams from your sword. Each arrow costs one Rupee to use. Its power is equal to the White Sword. Silver Arrow ------------ Location: Dungeon 8 Description: Used in conjunction with the Bow. The Silver Arrow's power is equal to the Magical Sword's and is needed to slay Ganon. Blue Candle ----------- Location: Buy it in a shop Description: The Blue Candle allows Link to throw fire a short distance. This flame can damage enemies, burn trees, and brighten up darkened rooms.
