Update: James Rolfe Interview
Back in 2018 I was lucky enough to get in touch with one James Rolfe via e-mail (aka the Angry Video Game Nerd). I posted on the Facebook page but I have decided to put them on the website as well. The interview is a bit brief, but was so cool to get some insights from a a gaming legend.
[1] What was the first Zelda game you played?
The original. I thought Link's name was Zelda, since he was the main character.
[2] What was your favourite Zelda game, prior to Ocarina of Time?
Link to the Past. Still is. That's the one I thought perfected the style of the original, and will always be the classic format of a Zelda game, for me.
[3] Do you think Zelda transitioned well to 3D?
It transitioned perfectly to 3D, but Ocarina (and onward) to me still represents a different type of Zelda game. It's the modern version.
[4] Do you prefer the more open ended approach that the original Legend of Zelda went for and do you think that approach, also seen in Breath of the Wild, should be the route the series takes?
Less linear? Yes. I love the open exploration in Breath of the Wild. I think they got it best there. But it doesn't matter to me too much if you have to complete the tasks in any set order.
[5] When did you first discover the CDi Zelda Trilogy?
Not until I was creating web series. People brought them up to me. I never heard of them, and was surprised they existed. I never heard them advertised once back then.
[[6] Aside from them, what is your least favourite Zelda game?
I'm not sure. Besides the CDI trilogy, I didn't care that much for some of the DS games which required use of the stylus pen.
