Link could see Ganon's Tower to the west, and as he traveled toward it his way was blocked by Lynels who patrolled the mountain. Link's mirror shield guarded him from their fiery breath, and he defeated them. Standing in front of the tower, he saw that it was protected by a magical barrier. Suddenly, the seven crystals floated above him, and he heard a voice say,
- Link, we are going to break the barrier of Ganon's Tower with our power.
With three flashes the barrier disappeared, and a stairway lowered to the ground. Link walked slowly up the stairs, ready to meet his fate. The inside of the Tower was decorated with symbols of the Triforce on the walls and statues of Ganon grasping the Triforce in his greedy hands. Link explored the basement first, and found that he could make an invisible pathway appear temporarily if he cast the Ether spell. He walked above a bottomless pit, trying to remember where he had seen the invisible path lead, and made it across unscathed. In the next room he bombed some weak floors, and jumped inside the hole. He landed on a floor of ice, and when he looked up he was surrounded by Armos Knights, the same monsters he had destroyed to win the Pendant of Courage! After fighting these statues while slipping around on the ice, Link found the Big Key, and, up one floor, the Red Mail, which gave him better protection.
Now Link started to climb the tower. In one room he faced Lanmolas once more, hitting the heads of these three huge worms who dove in and out of the sand. Climbing further, he fought a Moldorm again, striking at the tail of this slithering monster. At last he reached the top, and stood in front of the final door at the top of the tower. A bat insignia was woven into the carpet in front of the door, but Link did not yet know what this meant. Link opened the door with the Big Key, and inside faced not Ganon, but Agahnim, who, with an evil laugh, told him mockingly,
It's great that you could come all the way here, Link. I'm very happy to see you again, but you'd better believe that we will not have a third meeting! Prepare to meet your doom!
This time Agahnim used his powers to make two ghostly versions of himself float around to confuse Link. All three versions of Agahnim stuck with the wizard's same strategy, and moved around the room casting spells at Link. Link knew which one was real, because two of them looked like the translucent spirits that they were. Link concentrated on the real Agahnim and hit the balls of energy back at their caster. It was a little harder dodging three energy balls at once, but Agahnim was at last defeated once and for all.
With Agahnim dying, the two decoys floated back to their creator, and Agahnim crumpled to the floor in a heap. But lo and behold, Ganon's spirit came out of the heap and, turning into a blue bat, flew away. Link, desperate not to lose Ganon, played the flute, and somehow the mysterious white bird transcended space to enter the Dark World and pick up Link. The bird flew furiously after the bat, who crashed into the top of the Pyramid of Power and went inside. The bird dropped Link off at the top of the pyramid, right outside the new bat-shaped hole on the top of the pyramid. Link dropped in to face Ganon in his final hiding place.
