The Rise of Agahnim

As told in Hylian scrolls, long ago the Triforce was hidden in the Golden Land. The one who rediscovered the entrance to the Golden Land was Ganondorf, king of thieves. He used the Triforce to cover Hyrule with darkness. But the seven sages sealed him away in a large battle, and Hyrule once again knew peace. Many centuries passed, and the details of Ganon's imprisonment were obscured by the mists of time.

Given the ignorance of the people, it is hardly surprising that nobody was prepared for the new disasters that suddenly struck Hyrule. Pestilence and drought, uncontrollable even by magic, ravaged the land. The king of Hyrule, after counsel with his sages, ordered an investigation of the Imprisoned Dark World (as the Golden Land had come to be known) but the wise men's seal was apparently intact. He offered rewards for anyone who could find the source of these troubles.

In answer to these summons a stranger named Agahnim came and quelled the disasters with a previously unseen form of magic. He gained fame for extinguishing a blaze of unknown orgigin. As a reward, the King gave him a new position as chief advisor and heir to the Seven Sages. The masses proclaimed him their hero. Peace had apparently returned to Hyrule once more.
