Zelda News: GC Zelda subtitle announced. Possibly.

Posted by on December 12, 2004

According to this topic at the IGN boards, the name of the upcoming Gamecube Zelda game will be "Zelda no Densetsu: Yuushuu no Tadzuna", which roughly translates to "The Legend of Zelda: The Ride of Melancholy".

Since my source here is a topic in a forum, which got it's news from an Aonuma interveiw posted on a Spanish board... well, suffice to say, take this with a grain of salt wink.gif I am currently looking for a more trustworthy source, perhaps the aforementioned Aonuma interveiw.

I'll keep you guys updated.

In the meantime, let us look at a dictionary...

Melancholy
mel·an·chol·y
noun
1. Sadness or depression of the spirits; gloom: “There is melancholy in the wind and sorrow in the grass” (Charles Kuralt).
2. Pensive reflection or contemplation.
3. Archaic.
-Black bile.
-An emotional state characterized by sullenness and outbreaks of violent anger, believed to arise from black bile.

adj.
1.Affected with or marked by depression of the spirits; sad. See Synonyms at sad.
2. Tending to promote sadness or gloom: a letter with some melancholy news.
3.Pensive; thoughtful.

Interesting. If this name is legit, then it seems to me that it indicates a game more... well, melancholy in tone wink.gif More sadness, more darkness.

You may discuss this in our forums.

UPDATE: I ave now seen a few people translate "Yuushuu no Tadzuna" as "The Bridle of Melancholy", which would be more in keeping with the games being named after the items. I'm not fluent in Japanese, so I'll need someone like Zethar to confirm a translation.

UPDATE: I've been looking for awhile, and am totally unable to find a reliable source with this information. Until we do, as I said... take this with a grain of salt.

UPDATE: I've now been told that Tadzuna is not a word in Japanese at all. I'm becoming a bit confused, now wink.gif It's looking likely that it's just a hoax.
