Zelda News: Small Interview from IGN

Posted by on June 8, 2009

Another interview from IGN, the girl behind Link may NOT be the Master Sword, I Repeat she may NOT be the Master Sword. Please read below.

IGN: At your developer roundtable this week, you showed off a single piece of artwork from the next Wii Zelda game. This piece of art has not yet been released publicly, but we noticed that Link appears to have grown to full adulthood. He looks older than he did in Twilight Princess. Is that a correct assumption?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, the story setting for this Zelda is, of course, in a completely different era and Link is older than he was previously. More approaching adulthood. There is one hint. Maybe from the art work you can see that he's not holding a sword.

IGN: Has he lost his Master Sword?

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Laughing] I just wanted to make sure that you understand we are making it. That's all I'm going to say on that subject.

IGN: Does the game follow the story progression of Twilight Princess or is it something completely different?

Shigeru Miyamoto: I can't go into details except to say that it's something completely different.

IGN: You just mentioned that the game audience is shrinking and that Nintendo is always looking for ways to entice new players. Is this something that you're thinking about for the new Zelda, too, or is there a separation where that's off limits because the franchise is traditionally hardcore?

Shigeru Miyamoto: I think we do this with Mario and Zelda as well. When we are working on the plans for them, we are trying to come up with ways where we can satisfy our longtime fans and bring new players into the franchises as well. That's something we're always looking at. However, when I get involved in a title, I focus a lot on more experience and the more advanced gameplay elements. If I get into it, there's a tendency for difficulty levels to ramp up so that's something I really have to watch for myself to make sure that I don't do that.

Thanks for the post. Wish I could see some of those pictures. I don't really understand what it means when you say the girl is not the Master Sword. Is there a particular reason why a girl would end up being the Master Sword?

Amy122 says:

Really everyone kept thinking that she's the Master Sword since Link didn't have the sword in his right hand.

bluejx23 says:

Oh, cool idea, but it doesn't sound very Zeldaish. More like something for a fanfic. Is there any place I could check this picture out?

Swordsman289 says:

Try legendofzeldaseries.com. They have the picture in their news archive.

bluejx23 says:

Oh, wow. I can see why people would think she's the Master Sword. Thanks a bunch.

Impossible says:

Er, Miyamoto didn't say that she isn't the Master Sword. In fact, it's the very fact that Miyamoto made a big deal about the lack of a sword that led people to pay attention to this and start talking about that girl potentially being his sword. How can you tell she isn't? He isn't HOLDING a sword, that's the key word here.

Allendra says:

Um, I don't have an opinion either way what she is . . .but he doesn't say anything in this interview that shoots down that theory. He just points out the Link doesn't have a sword.

bluejx23 says:

Good point, Impossible. I can't wait for more information on this new Zelda. Nintendo's done a very good job building the hype.

Amy122 says:

What is it, is mostly all the Zelda fans thinks she's the Master Sword since Link isn't holding it. Just like how everyone thought Midna was the Master Sword. Before the Nintendo fourms where shut down, I was looking through the Zelda fourms and nearly everyone thought Midna was the Master Sword or something like that.

bluejx23 says:

That's an interesting find. Now that I look at the picture a second time, I notice Link is holding his shield in his left hand. Bummer. Does this mean we can expect him to be right handed again?

Amy122 says:

Yes he's going to be right handed yet again, sad.gif

Ganondorfs-Girl says:

It's interesting, but I'm not going to worry myself over theories. smile.gif I'll just wait for the game to come out.

hauu13 says:

I don't know what to think of this game.I'll just wait until GI or GP tests it. Or I'll just buy it.

Amy122 says:

Well welcome back Ganondorfs-Girl smile.gif I think I might just do the same wait until the game comes out. ^^

Ganondorfs-Girl says:

Yeah, it's been a while, hasn't it? smile.gif Anyway, I hope people don't go overboard with their theories. It's much better to wait!

bluejx23 says:

I think it's fun to try and predict what will be in the next game. None of it really matters once the game comes out since everyone simply forgets about it. It's just a way to pass the time.

Amy122 says:

Your right on that Bluejk23 everyone does forget everything after the game comes out XDD

bluejx23 says:

lol. When the game comes out, everyone just wants to play. Until then, I'll be waiting patiently for the next piece of information to come out. Please post what you find so I can comment on it! update.gif

Amy122 says:

Lol, I'll see what I can find smile.gif I may be only for interview but I'm trying to help the site since those I guess are in school well they should be out of school by now....i hope...

bluejx23 says:

Oh. Well, thanks for the extra work. I appreciate it and I'm sure the other site managers do as well.

poetry.gif <-- These things are too cool.

Amy122 says:

lol where did you get those? He's so cute :3

bluejx23 says:

Left column of this site, under multimedia. I hardly ever use emoticons, but I think I'll make an exception for these guys.

horror.gif (lmao)

Allendra says:

That is so cute! I want one for every site! lol

Amy122 says:

It would help if i look around on the site XDD

bluejx23 says:

It would be cool if every site had these. Though, I'd be happy if this site was able to expand their emoticons some more. You know, more colored Links and different characters. That would be awesome. Yet, with most of the site managers busy, I don't see any of that happening.

l;T_T.gif

Amy122 says:

Actually I think their retired from what I read :\ I guess they got too busy with other stuff and couldn't handle the site or something kinda like mine...only it needs to be hosted >< and I don't have the money.

bluejx23 says:

That sucks. Shouldn't they make a post announcing their retirement? If no one is paying for hosting then members should know the site may end up dead soon. I know the site hasn't been too active lately, but it still shouldn't die so quietly.

l;angry.gif (Hmm, it's hard to seem serious with these damn emoticons... too addicting.)

Amy122 says:

lol I think one of them is still paying for the hosting and i think one of them has semi retired idk, I'll have to re-look it up.

Allendra says:

Man, this site can't go out! It's one of my favorite Zelda fan sites!

Amy122 says:

I know what you mean, the fan art area is almost dead, hardly anyone uploads art, I barely update due to work.

bluejx23 says:

Hopefully, the site will pick up some more once the new Zeldas hit the shelves. Darn it, talking about them is making me want them to hurry up and come out! argh.

l;dizzy.gif

Amy122 says:

LOL I know what you mean smile.gif

MikePetersSucks says:

Though I'm not a big proponent of the theory or anything, I don't see how this interview in any way proves that the girl isn't the Master Sword. Infact, this exact same interview is what made people think she is.

Amy122 says:

That and just like Midna was the Master Sword too.

Turless says:

Even though the "busy" disease caught up with me just as strong as with anyone, I would still be sad without this site. Zeldalegends is actually where I originally found news of Twilight Princess' first trailer back in the day. Ah, the memories sleep.gif

As to the original topic, I don't know about Midna, but aside from the fact that Link isn't holding a sword, we are also considering how that girl looks somewhat like the Master Sword. Personally, I think it would be quite intriguing if the Master Sword turned out to be an animate weapon.

targu says:

I still believe that she is the master sword but not because link doesnt have a sword in his hand. I believe that because her body has the exact shape of the master sword. Her wings, necklace... Cmon guys. dont you have a picture of master sword. It is obvious.

Amy122 says:

Nope, I'll find one ASAP though and I'll see about making a new area for the games. Just to help those others out...

Hylian Fox says:

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9126/swordwoman.png

Whether she is the sword or not, she has way too many similarities in design to not be in some way related to the Master Sword.

bluejx23 says:

Very nicely done, Hylian. That pretty much settles the debate until more information comes around, imo.

Allendra says:

Wow, when you look at them side by side like that, it's pretty impressive.

Amy122 says:

I've already seen something like this. But like Miyamoto said, their working on the Master Sword so they may end up changing the Master Sword again, remember what it looked like in A Link to the Past? It was changed from that to Ocarina of Time to Wind Waker and now to Twilight Princess. So they may keep it the same way or give it a new look. We'll have to wait and see what goes on and wait for another picture to come up.

Hylian Fox says:

"IGN: Has he lost his Master Sword?

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Laughing] I just wanted to make sure that you understand we are making it. That's all I'm going to say on that subject. "

That could refer to either the sword or the game itself... l;suspicious.gif

Seeing as how this new game is (at the moment) using Twilight Princess' art-style, the Master Sword will most likely retain that appearance.

Still, it's alot of fun to speculate. I actually prefer it over knowing everything at once. l;dizzy.gif

bluejx23 says:

Urgh, I want MORE INFO! l;omg.gif

Er... just a little more. l;sweat.gif

Amy122 says:

I haven't found anything from IGN. sad.gif IF your into Naruto, there's going to be another Clash of Ninja Rev. coming out in Sept. it will have Sasori and Deidara.

bluejx23 says:

Nah, I'm not into Naruto games, just the manga, anime, and fanfiction. I guess I'll just have to be patient. (bleh) <!--emo&=P--><img src=.gif' />:-->l;=P.gif
Information on new games tend to come out in those monthly gaming magz and gaming events like E3. Maybe I should subscribe to nintendo power again? l;unsure.gif

Amy122 says:

That's what i'm thinking too but the last Nintendo power mag i got sucked. ><

Allendra says:

I just subscribed again, I haven't gotten one for a few months and misssed knowing what games were coming out. lol

Amy122 says:

lol I haven't gotten one in mths. >< But last I looked at it, it sucked. Nothing good or nothing new was it in. Plz tell me if it's worth for me to re-subscribe again.

bluejx23 says:

I would like to know as well! What kind of articles are running in NP lately?

Allendra says:

Sure, as soon as I get my first I'll let you know!

hauu13 says:

You know, if NP doesn't have good articles you could always subscribe to GameInformer or GamePro, they have a lot of good previews and reviews.

Amy122 says:

I have GameInformer, where would I sign up for GamePro?

hauu13 says:

Uh... Try searching for GamePro on the internet? Or look at a magazinesection in a store and see if they have it...

Amy122 says:

Ok, I'll do that thanks.

Allendra says:

No magazine yet -sigh-they're slow! 8D

bluejx23 says:

Oi! Why can't I comment on the newest post?

Amy122 says:

I'll look at it.

mclenns says:

Can u release some pics? if so, post them

Amy122 says:

The only picture there is, is the poster. =\

linkwolf48 says:

lol the fairy girl on the picture got me wondering too lol, if link becomes right handed.
