This game was released for the Bandai Satellaview, also called the BS-X. This device attached to the bottom of the Japanese Super Famicom, and allowed users to connect to the St. GIGA satellite system. Here one could read about Nintendo news or even download games to play! Games could be recorded onto a BS-X cassette, and played for a limited amount of time. The various games released were broadcasted from 4:00 to 7:00. The player could not save their game, and once 7:00 rolled around, the game ended.
BS Zelda was a remake of the original "Legend of Zelda," with enhanced graphics and different level layouts. Instead of starring Link, the hero is BS-X's trademark character, a kid with a backwards cap! The game was broadcast in parts, for four weeks. It was broadcast four times during the Satellaview's lifetime, from 1995-2000.
Since this game is no longer available to download on the St. GIGA network, the only way to play it is through emulation. The original game was never completed. You could not get certain vital items, and the last dungeon (level 9, Ganon's lair), was never made. But over the years, many patches and hacks have been made for the game. A final dungeon was created by fans, so you could beat the game. The game has even been translated into other languages.
