The lighting makes it difficult to tell...is Link's opponent skeletal, or simply a wraith?

He's skeletal. It seems that this guy's gonna teach Link a skill (based on the screenshot in the manual).

Instead of wondering who this guy is, we should ask who the hell he WAS. He knows much of the skills of the Hero of Time and knows Majora and Ocarina songs (great nostalgia). You don't suppose this happened to the Link in OoT, do ya?
After the last training session he calls Link "my child".

My brother and I were thinking that he might be Ocarina of Time Link. He's left handed, he talks about TP Link being in his bloodline, he wears tights, and he's got a man skirt. Do you think TP Link might be OoT Link's son?

That would be in a way too depressing. This guy seems to have been dead a while, the Hero is already a part of Hyrule's collective memory, and the Temple of Time seems to have been abandoned for over a century. I would accept anything beyond grandfather, or even great-grandfather. More note on the similarities in his past and present gear: the gauntlets are quite clearly Gold Gauntlets from OoT, the hilt and crossbar are like on the MM version of the Kokiri Sword and the blade is identical to the Master Sword's. BTW, his official name is Hero's Shade (found out on christmas day from Wikipedia).
WAITAMINIT!! If the Hero of Time disappeared from the "future" timeline of OoT, how is his ghost here? Either spirits can transcend space-time, or the entire Legend of Zelda is within a single timeline. there went that theory and my support for it.
